Itinerary

Day 1: Taipei to Taichung

Travel 2 hours from Taipei to Taichung via car.Visit the Zhongshe Flower garden in Taichung, where you will see the fantastic colors all season.

Visit the outskirts of Xinshe, and drop by the local farms for fruits picking.  Depending on seasons, you get to pick grapes, pears, strawberries and more.  Head on to Xinshe Lavender Cottage and remember to get some mosituriser products back.  Drop by one of the many theme cafes in the region and have a relaxing afternoon tea.  Final stop will be the Fengjia night market where you can sample the many local Taiwanese delights and check in.

 

Day 2: Taichung to Sun Moon Lake Day trip, with boat cruise. Overnight in Sun Moon Lake

Travel 1.5 hour from Taichung to the renowned Sun Moon Lake.  You have the option of taking a boat cruise and enjoy the magnificent views around the lake or you can go by foot.  Either way, you will be overwhelmed by the beautiful scenery.  You will visit other attractions such as the Peacock gardens, the Pagoda and the Wenwu temple which is highly recommended for sunset viewing.

Have an ethnic lunch by the lake and head off to the Ita Thao Village via the cable ropeway.  Take time to explore the aborigines village and understand their lifestyle.  Grab some souvenirs in the village before heading back to the resort.

 

Day 3: Sun Moon Lake to Alishan

Travel 2.5 hour from Sun Moon Lake to Alishan via car.First stop, you will visit the aborigines village, Yuyupas, the home of the Hmong tribe.  Enjoy the performance and dance with the aborigines.  After that, tread the old streets of Alishan, Fenqihu and remember to try the Alishan Train Bento.

If time permits, visit the tea plantation in Alishan.  You can experience picking tea leaves and try out the tea products.

Check in to resort.  Depending on season, you may catch a glimpse of the fireflies during the season or learn tea etiquette from the locals.

 

Day 4: Alishan

Wake up at 3am and travel 45 minutes to Alishan National Park.  You need to catch the forest rail up to Mt Zhu to catch the sunrise.  It is an awesome experience going up the steep mountain and catching the first light of the day.

After that, have breakfast nearby and explore Alishan National Park.  You will cover all attractions in the park including the Sister’s lake, Three Generation Tree.  You will also have a chance to ride the Alishan Forest Steam Rail.

 

Day 5: Alishan to Cingjing

Travel 3.5 hours from Alishan to Cingjing via car.Have an ethnic lunch in Cingjing.  Cingjing is 1700 meters above sea level and enjoys cool weather throughout the year.  It is home to many ethnic groups from Yunnan due to government efforts to relocate the ethnic groups from China to Taiwan.   In Cingjing, the urn chicken is one of the highly recommended dish.

After lunch, you have a few options.  You can put on your walking boots and explore the different walking trails in this region.  Or visit the Old England, a Victorian mansion for afternoon tea.  Otherwise if you have kids, you may want to visit the Cingjing farms for sheep show and horse shows.

When night comes, try out the Yunnan cuisine in one of the many local restaurants in the vicinity.  Get an open spot and do star gazing.

 

Day 6: Cingjing to Hualien

Travel 4 hours from Cingjing to Hualien.Enroute, visit Mt Hehuan which is one of the highest mountains in Taiwan at sea level 3200 meters.  In winter, sometimes it may snow.  There are a few trails for the adventurous ranging from 40 minutes to 3 hours.

Continue the journey towards Tianxiang, part of the Taroko National Park.  This will be the last place to get some food and snacks before heading into the heart of Taroko National Park.  Explore the various walking trails such as the Shakadang, Swallow Grottos walking trails to have different perspective of the Taroko Gorge.

Visit the Seven Star Lake (pacific ocean) and take a walk and enjoy fresh air.

Check in to the resort and you will visit Da Dong Men night market at night.  Hualien is famous for the Golden Pillow (a bread snacks).

 

Day 7: Hualien back to Taipei via train and enjoy train bento on board (own expenses)

You have the option to take a cycling trip (about 32km) and enjoy the scenery along the East Coast.  Otherwise, the driver can drive you along various destinations in East Coast.

Driver will drop you at the Train station for you to catch a train back to Taipei to your hotel.

 

Day 8: Free and easy, send to airport for flight.
